Free and cheap things to do in Ao Nang and Krabi

By after. team (Leo & Nick, living in Ao Nang) · Last updated: October 2026

  • Tiger Cave Temple (Wat Tham Suea) – around 1,260 steep steps to a golden Buddha and a view over the whole province. Go at sunrise or late afternoon, bring water, cover shoulders and knees. Watch your snacks – the monkeys are fast.
  • Dragon Crest (Khao Ngon Nak) hike – a jungle trail to a cliff edge with a view over the islands. A national park entrance fee applies. Start very early: it's steep, hot and best at sunrise.
  • Monkey Trail to Pai Plong Beach – a short walk from the end of Ao Nang beach to a quiet bay.
  • Ao Nang Beach sunset – free and every night. Nopparat Thara next door is calmer and great for long walks at low tide.
  • Klong Muang & Tubkaek beaches – quieter, 20–30 minutes north by scooter.
  • Krabi Town Walking Street (weekend nights) – street food, live music, cheap eats.
  • Ao Nang night markets – dinner for very little.
  • Wat Kaew Korawaram (Krabi Town) – the white temple, free.
  • Emerald Pool & Blue Pool / Hot Springs Waterfall – small park fees, best in the morning before tour buses arrive.Tiger Cave, Emerald Pool & Hot Springs as a day tourvia GetYourGuideOpen Partner link – we may earn a small commission, it never costs you more.

Getting around: a scooter is the cheapest way to see it all – only with a licence and a helmet, and check your insurance covers it.
