Ao Nang to Railay Beach: longtail boats, prices and tips
By after. team (Leo & Nick, living in Ao Nang) · Last updated: October 2026
Railay is cut off from the mainland by limestone cliffs, so the only way in is by boat. From Ao Nang that means a 10–15 minute longtail ride.
How it works
- Buy a ticket at the longtail ticket booth on Ao Nang beach front.
- Boats leave when they're full (usually 6–8 people). Daytime fares are roughly 100–150 THB per person each way; after dark it costs more.
- Depending on the tide you may wade in knee-deep water – wear shorts and keep your phone in a dry bag.
What to do at Railay
- Phra Nang Cave Beach – a short walk from Railay East, often called one of the most beautiful beaches in Thailand. Go early.
- Railay viewpoint & lagoon trail – steep, muddy, with ropes. Proper shoes, not flip-flops, and not after heavy rain.
- Rock climbing – Railay and Tonsai are world famous. Half-day beginner courses are run by the local climbing schools.
- Sunset at Railay West, then the last boat back (ask the booth when it leaves).
Shortcut: a half-day tour from Ao Nang includes the boat, guide and the best spots.
